Barrett, the Honors College presents the 2018 Drescher Lecture featuring Dr. Rachel Fedock and Dr. John Parker!
Tuesday, March 13 at 5:00pm
Barrett Theater at Vista del Sol
Dr. Rachel Fedock will be presenting her lecture "The Inside-Out Exchange Program at Barrett:" The Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program is an integrated classroom of college students and incarcerated persons, coming together to learn and grow, facilitating dialogue across difference. Dr. Rachel Fedock completed Inside-Out instructor training to bring this innovative classroom experience to Barrett.
Dr. John Parker will be presenting his lecture "Sensors and Sensibility: Using Wearable Computer Sensors to Measure Social Interactions in Small Groups:" This talk will detail my explorations into using wearable computer sensors to measure social interactions in small groups of collaborating scientists. I will argue that sensors have the potential to revolutionize how we study social life, but that using them properly requires understanding some important limitations of this new technology. To end, I will use primary data gathered at two international research centers to demonstrate connections between aspects of group behavior as measured by sensors and scientists' perceptions of individual and group creativity.
