Macayo’s Depot Cantina is the Cornerstone of Fun and Great Mexican Food in Tempe

Director of Marketing and Brand Management for Macayo’s, Ashley Negron explains, “It used to just be the Depot Cantina. Macayo’s bought the building in 1991 and it became Macayo’s Depot Cantina. It’s called the Depot Cantina because literally, it was the old Tempe train station. The cabooses in the back have a big sign and that is original! We had a painter refurbish it.” The cabooses feature full air conditioning and bathrooms. “The Tempe location is its own concept and is a little bit different from our other Macayo’s,” says Negron. “It has the same recipes and food items and the classic menu items are there. But, there are also about 30 additional menu items including seared ahi, BBQ pork tacos and seafood stuffed jalapenos, to name a few.”

Negron says, “The menu is approachable for a wide variety of people because they have burgers, chicken sandwiches and wraps and many non-Mexican items. It’s great for groups because everyone has something to choose from and the menu is huge.” Macayo’s Depot Cantina is also a hot spot for visiting teams that are playing at ASU. Recently, the restaurant hosted nearly 250 people from Oregon! “It’s a really fun location and there’s a lot of history here,” adds Negron.

The high energy location is located just right off of ASU’s campus. Sure, it can be a college hangout at times, but local businesses utilize Macayo’s Depot Cantina for business lunches, special events and happy hours. “The Tempe location also brings in a lot of travelers because it’s near the airport and on the light rail,” Negron states. “Anything fun that you want to do, Macayo’s Depot Cantina is the spot for it!”

Happy hour at Macayo’s Depot Cantina is really something special. From 3:30 -6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, guests will enjoy appetizers ranging from $3.75 to $6.00, $3 happy hour margaritas, draft beer and domestic bottles and $6 featured margaritas, wine and red sangria. Macayo’s Depot Cantina also features “Brunch and Beats” on Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m. Mimosas, bloody marys and margaritas are available for $3-$5.
